Vintage Rolex Oysterdate ref 6694 (1973) is one of the most approachable entries into vintage Rolex, and it also happens to be a bit different from the rest of the lineup. While it features the same durable Oyster case that made Rolex famous, this model runs on a manual-wind movement rather than the self-winding Perpetual calibers found in most Rolex watches. That’s why the dial is signed “Oysterdate” instead of “Oyster Perpetual.” Produced throughout the 1960s and 1970s, the ref 6694 has developed a loyal following among collectors who appreciate its simplicity and vintage character. This example features a silver linen dial with older-style stick hour markers and small Tritium lume plots that have aged into a very light beige patina. The smooth bezel is perfectly understated, while the Oyster bracelet with rivet links adds to its vintage charm.
