This 5513 is in overall attractive, vintage condition. The case is in good condition with normal signs of wear. The inside caseback is stamped "5513 IV.67" and the numbers between the lugs are visible. The "long 5" bezel insert is in great condition with some wear throughout; it has aged to an attractive grey/blue color throughout. The pip is a later replacement. The watch has retained its correct non-triplock crown. The dial is in overall honest condition with patina throughout and some wear. When looking closely the dial has developed a bit of a texture with some wear around the edge. The lume plots on the dial have aged and developed dark patina. The hands have developed patina and the lume has been color corrected/ relumed to match the lume on the dial, it works well. This watch has a 93150 bracelet with no. 580 end links, and divers extension; the clasp is stamped "AB2" indicating it is from 2000. The bracelet is in overall good condition with normal wear and a bit of stretch between the links which is not uncommon.
Vintage Rolex Submariner ref 5513 (1968) introduced around 1962 and it was in production until 1989. It was one of the longest continually produced references from the brand. Rolex initially used glossy dials in this model and swapped to matte around 1966, like this example. When Rolex went to the matte dial they also put the depth rating as "200m = 660ft" and these are known as "meters first" in the collecting community. Eventually Rolex would swap the depth rating to feet first around the early 1970s and have continued this trend to the modern offerings. One theory on this change is that Rolex wanted to boost sales in the United States, but to our knowledge Rolex has not made any definitive statements on this shift.
