This Rolex watch is in great overall vintage condition. The case is strong with scratches and wear, it also has some nicks. The case appears to have been lightly polished and the bevels are still visible. The bezel ring has remained sharp and the bezel insert is in excellent condition with light wear. The bezel insert has remained dark black and the pip at 12 has developed patina. This watch has retained its correct "non triplock" crown with no dots under the coronet. The meters first matte dial is in excellent condition with light patina. The hands have developed oxidation on the borders which is not uncommon. The lume on the dial has developed patina and aged to an even custard color. The lume in the hands has also developed patina and aged to a custard color that is pretty close to the color of the lume on the dial. The folded link bracelet is in great overall condition with some wear and scratches. It has a bit of stretch between the links which is not uncommon for this style bracelet. This bracelet features an error divers extension where "Patented" is spelled "Pateted."
By Paul Altieri
Rolex introduced ref. 5513 around 1962 and it was in production until 1989. It was one of the longest continually produced references from the brand. Rolex initially used glossy dials in this model and swapped to matte after1966, like this example. When Rolex went to the matte dial they also put the depth rating as "200m = 660ft" and these are known as "meters first" in the collecting community. Eventually Rolex would swap the depth rating to feet first around the early 1970s and have continued this trend to the modern offerings. One theory on this change is that Rolex wanted to boost sales in the United States, but to our knowledge Rolex has not made any definitive statements on this shift.
The example we have here is in beautiful condition and comes directly from the family of the original owner. The whole watch is just fantastic from the beautifully aged lume to the fat font bezel. This watch was clearly well taken care of over the years. The case dates to 1970, the inside caseback is dated "2/71" and the bracelet is also dated "2/71" which all makes sense since these watches could take a year or more to assemble. This watch also features an error divers extension in the clasp. Rolex misspelled patented on the divers extension, it reads "Pateted." These error bracelets are becoming more sought after by collectors because they bring the watch to the next level of rarity.

Fantastic transaction and watch even better than described / pictures. Tanya was great to deal with, easy communication, give her a raise!
Watch shows better then in pictures . Second watch purchased from Bobs since October. Very happy with both experiences . I mistakenly overpaid on the price.of my last purchase. Along with the watch was a check for the overpayment. I feel Bobs as honest and trustworthy. Thanks
Excellent service . Fantastic communication. I couldn’t of asked for more .
The watch was delivered very quickly and was exactly as advertised. They even provided a few vintage pamphlets from the period. All my questions were answered promptly. Overall great experience. I will definitely buy my next Rolex from Bob’s.
The condition of this vintage Rolex 5513 is nicer than I anticipated based on the age. Your staff was very helpful and went out of their way to help make sure I had enough links in the band.
