This Submariner is in good, attractive vintage condition. The case is in great condition with normal signs of wear. The inner caseback is stamped: "5512" which is not uncommon. Rolex was known to use different reference number casebacks with similar references (5513 & 5512 is one of the more common examples of this). The serial and reference numbers are visible between the lugs with some sings of pitting mainly on the 6 o'clock side where the serial number is. The bezel insert is in great condition with some normal wear and scratches; the pip appears to be a later replacement. The matte dial is in overall good, attractive condition with some darker patina around the edge and center of the dial. The dial also has some marks that can be hard to notice. The lume on the dial has developed patina and some plots have developed areas of darker patina and some plots have developed some small holes. The hands have developed patina and the lume in the hour and minutes hands have been color corrected/ relumed and are close to matching the color of the lume on the dial. When looking closely the hour hand shows signs of cracking. It has a stainless steel 93150 Oyster bracelet with 11 links, 580 end links and divers extension. The bracelet is stamped "H" indicating it's from 1983. The bracelet is in overall good condition with some scratches, normal wear, and stretch between the links.
Vintage Rolex Submariner ref 5513 (Circa 1982) was one of the longest continually produced references from the brand. Rolex initially used glossy dials in this model and swapped to matte around 1966. Rolex made many variations of the matte dial and this circa 1982 example has a "Maxi" dial. Rolex made these "Maxi" dials from around 1978 to 1984. "Maxi" refers to the lume plots being larger than the ones on previous 5513's. Collectors have identified 5 different Maxi dial variations and this example has the "Mark IV" variety. The Mark IV "Maxi dial" is distinguished by the "Submariner" text above and shorter than the depth raring and the flat top "S" in Submariner.
We see collectors gravitate towards these Maxi 5513s because of the bigger lume plots and due to these being the last versions of the matte dial 5513, before Rolex went to glossy dials with white gold surrounding the lume plots around 1984.
