The Ingenieur dates back to the 1950s as IWC’s answer to the growing need for anti-magnetic watches, originally developed for engineers and professionals working around strong magnetic fields. Over time, it evolved, most notably through Gérald Genta’s redesign in the 1970s, but the “Big Ingenieur” era pushed things further with larger cases and more visible complications.
This reference is part of the SL 63 AMG limited edition, tying it to IWC’s long-standing partnership with Mercedes-AMG. The 46mm stainless steel case has serious presence, paired with a clean silver dial with a clean layout. It has a power reserve indicator at 3 o’clock and a date at 6, adding some practical functionality without cluttering things up. Paired here on a leather strap, it wears a bit more refined than the size might suggest. "
