Omega produced the Flightmaster for just a few years between 1969 and the early 1970s. The collection was developed as a navigational tool for pilots and other world travelers, including the crew of the Concorde British Airways and Soviet Cosmonauts. During its production, two generations came to market distinguished by either the caliber 911 or 910 movement. The example you see here hails from the first generation. We know that because it features a 24-hour register at 9 o'clock instead of continuous seconds.
This vintage Omega also features what many avid luxury watch collectors lovingly refer to as a "Tropical" dial, which has since faded from black to a striking brown color. It's also worth noting that the Flightmaster was the first Omega Chronograph GMT. It features a very distinctive design comprised of two chronograph pushers, three crowns, an inner-rotating bezel, a trio of sub-dials, four centrally-mounted hands, and a tonneau-shaped case. Although complex, this design set is unmistakably retro and very reminiscent of the 1970s. It's a rare gem that deserves a spot in any watch box.
