Pre-owned Rolex Submariner ref 16618 (1999) is the final chapter of the full yellow gold Submariner with an aluminum bezel. The Submariner itself dates back to 1953, originally developed as a purpose-driven dive watch rated to 100 meters. Over the decades, it evolved into something bigger than just a tool. By the time references like the 16618 were in production, the Sub had already become one of the most recognizable watches in the world. This example pairs solid 18k yellow gold with that deep blue aluminum bezel insert and matching blue dial. The aluminum insert has a warmth to it that ceramic doesn’t replicate. It can age, soften, and develop personality over time. Beneath the gold exterior, it still has 300 meters of water resistance and the reliable caliber 3135 with a Quickset date. It’s unapologetically luxurious, but it’s also a legitimate dive watch. That balance is what makes it so special and collection-worthy.
