You’re an Odd One Rolex Prince

One of the most overlooked models in the Rolex catalog is the Cellini dress watch.  A far cry from the utilitarian tool watches and iconic dress references that are more commonly sought-after by Rolex enthusiasts, it isn’t hard to see why the watch community often ignores Cellini watches.  However, their exceptional quality and unique style deserve a closer look.  One such reference that is garnering a lot of attention these days among collectors is the Cellini Prince 5443.  A relatively newer addition to the Rolex catalog, the ref. 5443 boasts every modern luxury afforded to the Cellini line and is prepared to steal the title of most beloved dress reference in your watch box.

A Closer Look

The Rolex Cellini Prince ref. 5443 steps away from the understated yet sophisticated style that is often associated with Rolex Cellini dress watches. While many classic features remain, such as the use of precious metals and curved lines, the ref. 5443 boasts a style that is all its own with a unique double dial and masculine case.

The most notable feature of this particular mens dress watch is the bold rectangular 18 karat white gold case.  While it offers a distinct shape and fit on the wrist, measuring 47mm x 28mm, the Cellini Prince 5443 is slightly larger than a traditional Datejust 36mm timepiece like the 1601, which measures approximately 44mm lug to lug.  The case is also characterized by a slight curvature that hugs the wrist for a supremely comfortable hold.  A scratch-resistant sapphire crystal protects the dial as well as the case back, giving the wearer a glimpse at the manual winding movement within the case.

The Rolex Cellini Prince 5443 is one of few watches from Rolex with a clear caseback.

The genuine leather bracelet is secured by a double deployant, or Butterfly, clasp crafted from 18 karat white gold.  The bracelet itself is slim and fits the wrist nicely for all-day wear.  The bracelet is paired with the sleek, curved case for a surprisingly discreet fit, even when worn under the cuff of a tuxedo, business suit, or button-up shirt.

Nicknamed the “Art Deco” Cellini, the ref. 5443 represents the era in which the first Cellini Prince debuted exceptionally well with a striking black Guilloche motif double dial with silver sunburst accents and a red border.  Arabic hour markers are prominently displayed at the 3, 6, and 9 positions for an easy reading.  The dials are powered by a manual winding calibre 7040 movement that boasts many modern Rolex upgrades, including a 70-hour power reserve, 28,800 bph, and a COSC certification.

No matter what the price tag is, you can rest assured that your gold Cellini Prince will hold its value well.
