The 1680 reference was produced by Rolex from 1969 to 1979 in this configuration with an acrylic crystal until it was switched over to the sapphire crystal common on all modern submariners. Although It is long overshadowed by is more popular cousin, the “red letter submariner” this version with its all white lettering has its fans due to its stark, clean dial.
This watch has a light eggshell patina to the dial that extends to the handset as well giving this timepiece a “just turning vintage look” that will appeal to any beginning collector. The calendar disc it the correct silver color for this model and the previously polished case is in excellent condition with natural age. The replaced bezel also shows signs of light aging but complements the case nicely. The 93150 oyster bracelet has 12 links and is in fantastic condition with a minimum of stretch. Long considered the workhorse of the Rolex professional series, the 1680 model is as classic as it is durable. Don’t let this one get away.
