The first Rolex Thunderbird Datejust came to market in 1953 and brought with it the classic Datejust feature set that many collectors know as love as well as a rotatable bezel. This was the first instance of a rotating bezel on a serially produced Rolex, which made it the brand's first official tool watch. A few years after the release of the Turn-o-Graph Datejust, Rolex would also release other more well-known tool watches, such as the Submariner and GMT Master II. The ref. 16263 is the two-tone variation of the Turn-o-Graph that pairs 18 karat yellow gold with stainless steel. The time is displayed via simple Roman hour markers and yellow gold hands, and the automatically changing date display is prominently displayed beneath a Cyclops magnifier at the 3-hour marker.
