| Case: | Excellent case that has previously been polished and shows light wear. The bezel shows some light wear with some nicks along the edge. Caseback is stamped 1655. Serial and reference numbers are crisp and well defined. |
| Dial: | Beautiful matte black tritium dial with creamy hour markers and matching hands. The dial has developed light patina with some light marks and a few shiny black areas throughout. Some of the markers have some light discoloration. The lume in the orange hand is a bit darker and shows signs of lume repair on the lower edge. The orange hand also has a slight separation in the lume along the lower edge. The orange paint on the hand has faded. The lume in the seconds hand has a slight crack in the center. |
| Bracelet: | Excellent 78360 bracelet with 12 links and 580 end links. Back of clasp is stamped "VC" indicating it is from 1978 and is a slightly earlier replacement. The bracelet has slight wear from use and the 12 o'clock end link has a couple slight indentations. |

PRE-OWNED WATCH CONDITION EXAMINATION
This Vintage Rolex watch is in overall excellent condition with some wear to the case and bezel and light wear to the bracelet. Crystal and dial has light surface wear.
Vintage Rolex Explorer II 1655 "Steve McQueen"
Reference 1655 is the inaugural Rolex Explorer II, introduced in 1971. What makes this watch so special is the unique design of the bezel and dial. The graduations are separated by hashes instead of inverted triangles, as seen in later references, giving ref. 1655 a distinctive retro design that is hard to miss. Additionally, the dial is topped with rectangular hour markers instead of the dot hour markers seen on its successors. The bright orange hour hand is another distinguishing feature of the vintage Explorer II that we would not see again until Rolex revived it alongside ref. 216570 in 2011.
