This Rolex time-only is in overall good, honest vintage condition consistent with age. The case is in good condition with scratches, nicks, and some wear. The inside caseback is stamped “988 4448.” The caseback has some scratches and wear; the crown and case number are worn, but still visible. The hallmark is still visible on the side of the five o’clock lug. This watch has retained its correct “mushroom” style crown. The engine-turned bezel is in good condition with some wear. The dial is in good, honest condition with some patina, wear, and scratches. The edge of the dial has developed some darker patina. The hands have developed patina and the very tip of the hour hand has broken off. This has a gold colored buckle that has some wear and gold color worn. The crystal is in good condition with some wear.
The Chronometer reference 4448 is a nice dress watch Rolex made during the 19th century. It's complete with an non lume dial, non-lume leaf shaped hands minus the straight blued seconds hand, and engine-turned bezel. This watch came to market in the late 1940s, circa 1948, with other similar references being released around the same time and into the 1950s. For the time, its 35mm size was seen as on the larger side but by today's standards the watch will fit nicely on anyone's wrists. It's a nice post-war example of Rolex's non-sports esthetic that predate the Cellini line. Just two decades shy of being a century old, references like these have been harder to find in nice working order.
