Vintage Rolex Datejust 36 ref. 16014 (1978) comes from an interesting period in DJ production, when the Crown was equipping watches with the higher-beat caliber 3035 (the first to feature the Quickset date) while still using vintage acrylic crystals. Rolex would later update the movement to the long-running caliber 3135 and swap the acrylic crystals for modern sapphire. Still, this model is an attractive option for collectors because it has a very approachable price point, yet a slightly more modern movement than the previous generation. Moreover, it exudes the modern elegance many are searching for in a classic 5-digit Rolex. This model caught our eye because it displays the time on a uniquely textured linen dial and also has Tritium in a very nice golden patina. All the signature Datejust design elements are there, right down to the fluted gold bezel, the 36mm case with a waterproof screw-down crown, and the famous 5-link Jubilee bracelet.
