| Case: | Excellent case that has previously been polished and has light wear from use. Comes with an excellent fat font bezel insert that has faded to 'ghost' gray with light wear from use. The serial number is engraved on the inside of the case back which is correct for this series of watch. The caseback is also stamped: 1665. Serial and reference numbers are crisp and well defined. |

Vintage Rolex Double Red Sea-Dweller 1665

The Rolex Sea-Dweller reference 1665 is a reference prized by collectors. The Sea-Dweller was developed for use by professional deep-sea divers, particularly with its inclusion of a "Helium Escape Valve" or "HEV" on the 9 o'clock side of the case to help the watch survive decompression from dry, pressurized environments.
The earliest Sea-Dweller examples had red printing and are called "Single Red" because of the one line of red text about the 6 o'clock marker, while the "Double Red" (featured here) features the words "Sea-Dweller" and "Submariner 2000" in red text above the 6 o'clock marker.
This example of a rare "Double Red Sea-Dweller" model has a "Mark 4" or "Mark IV" dial and features a beautifully-faded bezel insert that has turned a light "ghost" grey. These Sea-Dweller reference 1665 models are especially valued due to their beefier cases that fit modern tastes for larger watches.
