This vintage Rolex Explorer is in overall great vintage condition consistent with its age. The case is in good condition with normal signs of wear. Between the lugs show some wear and scratches; the numbers are still visible. The inside caseback is stamped " 1016 VI.66" The matte dial is in good, attractive condition with multiple small dark spots that is most noticeable at the 12 and 4 o'clock (these can be hard to notice depending on lighting). The lume on the dial has developed patina and aged to a lovely pale-yellow color. The nine o'clock lume plot shows signs of degradation. The hands have developed patina and the lume in the hands has also developed patina and aged a bit darker than the lume on the dial. The minutes hand shows some slight cracking to the lume and has a small hole in the lume towards the tip. This watch has a USA C&I Oyster rivet bracelet with 11 links. The clasp is stamped "76" indicating it is from 1976. The bracelet is in overall good condition with normal signs of wear and some light stretch between the links.
Rolex introduced the 1016 Explorer in 1959 and it was in production until 1989 making it one of the longest running produced references from the brand. At the beginning of the run Rolex made the dials glossy and then switched to the matte style around 1966.
This example is circa 1967 and features a matte Mark 1 "frog foot" dial. This mark gets the fun nickname because of the coronet on the dial and how it looks like a frogs foot. The lume on this example has developed a lovely pale yellow patina adding to the overall vintage charm.
