By Paul Altieri,
The Rolex Sea-Dweller reference 1665 is a reference prized by collectors. The Sea-Dweller was developed for use by professional deep-sea divers, particularly with its inclusion of a "Helium Escape Valve" or "HEV" on the 9 o'clock side of the case to help the watch survive decompression from dry, pressurized environments. The earliest Sea-Dweller examples had red printing and are called "Single Red" or "Double Red" due to the one or two-lines of red text on the dial, but this example is a "Great White" model featuring Sea-Dweller in white as well as only four lines of printing above six-o'clock inside of the five lines of printing found on its predecessors models. These "Great White" models have risen in value significantly as collectors have fallen in love with their clean look. The present model is a rare "Mark 1" or "Mk1" version of the Great White dial with beautiful creamy luminous material or "lume" on the dial and in the hands.
