Pre-Owned Watch Condition Examination
This Rolex watch is in overall excellent condition with light wear. The case has been polished, but remains thick. The dial, hands, bezel, and date wheel are later service replacements. The dial and hands are in excellent condition and still glow because of the luminova luminescent material. The bracelet is in great condition with light wear.
Vintage Rolex Sea-Dweller 1665
Sea-Dwellers in general are some of the rarest vintage Rolex sports models out there. Rolex introduced the celebrated model in 1967 and they still make it today. The Sea-Dweller was developed for use by professional deep-sea saturation divers, particularly with its inclusion of a "Helium Escape Valve" or "HEV" on the 9 o'clock side of the case to help the watch survive decompression from dry, pressurized environments. The earliest Sea-Dweller examples had red printing and are called "Single Red" or "Double Red" due to the one or two-lines of red text on the dial. Rolex stopped using Red text on the Sea-Dwellers around 1978 and moved to all white text. The example we have here today was born with a "Great White" dial that was eventually changed to a "Swiss" only service replacement. It was very common for Rolex to change and update watches when they come in for routine service and that is exactly what happened to this one. These Sea-Dwellers with matte service dials are also not very common and pretty neat to see.
In addition to being a lovely watch, this comes with its original box and punched papers. When looking at the guarantee, you can see the original caseback sticker was stuck on the front, and that is was sold through a retailer in Singapore on August 21, 1979. It's always fun to check out these details. This also comes with a Rolex service warranty from 2004 with the corresponding case number on it.
These all serviced up examples offer a great value and are ideal watches to wear everyday. This watch is a bit more special with its not so common matte service dial and original box and papers.
