Pre-owned Rolex Datejust 36 ref 16253 (1987) is a slightly different take on the classic two-tone DJ36. At its core, it has everything you expect. A steel Oyster case, two-tone Jubilee bracelet, 3 o’clock date, and a self-winding movement protected by a waterproof screw-down crown. The twist is the bezel. Instead of the usual fluted design, this model features a yellow gold Turn-O-Graph bezel with a textured finish and the ability to rotate, originally intended for timing short intervals. It gives the watch a more tool-oriented aesthetic without straying too far from the Datejust’s dressier roots. Aside from that detail, it wears like a traditional DJ36, which is why so many collectors are still after this watch.
