This Rolex watch is in overall great vintage condition. The case is in good condition with some scratches, wear and nicks. The bezel is in great condition with some wear and scratches; its aged to a lovely dark grey color throughout. The pip is a later replacement. The dial is in excellent condition and the lume has aged to a lovely and even marshmallow color. The hands have developed patina and the lume has aged to a pale yellow color that is slightly more yellow than the lume on the dial. The bracelet has some stretch between the links and has some wear and scratches; it features an error diver's extension stamped "PATETED". The bracelet clasp does not have a date code which is correct for this period (1974). The crystal is great condition with light wear.
Rolex introduced the reference 1680 around 1969 and it was in production until roughly 1979. This was the first Submariner to feature the date function and Rolex still offers date and no-date models to this day. This example has the word "Submariner" written in red text and collectors refer to these as the "Red Submariner." Rolex did this until around 1975 and then they switched to all white text. Collectors tend to gravitate towards these Red Subs and we have seen demand increase significantly in the last couple years.
This Submariner is in overall beautiful condition. The lume has aged to an attractive marshmallow color which pairs nicely with the beautiful dark grey bezel and vibrant red "Submariner" text on the dial. The watch features a Mark VI dial and this dial variation is distinguished by the feet first depth rating with closed 6s in the depth rating. This watch also features a folded link bracelet with error divers extension. Rolex misspelled patented on the divers extension, it reads "Pateted." These error bracelets are becoming more sought after by collectors because they bring the watch to the next level of rarity. The bracelet does not have a date code on the clasp which is correct for the year of production (1974).
This watch comes from the original owner who got it back in the mid-1970s right here in Southern California.

A little late on my review but I thought better late than never. I purchased this watch as an every day timepiece and couldn't be happier. I wear it everywhere and it still looks and functions great.
