The fastest-selling Rolex collections across more than 15 years of our transaction data is the white gold Submariner ref. 116619, which has sold 25 times faster than the average Rolex on our site, a score of 2,515 on the Bob’s Watches Rolex Liquidity Index. Rounding out the top five are the Sea-Dweller Deepsea “D-Blue” 116660B, the yellow gold Lady-Datejust 69138, the two-tone Datejust 28 ref. 279173, and the yellow gold Daytona 116508.
Notice what’s missing: four of the five fastest-selling references are gold or two-tone. The steel sport watches everyone expects to dominate, like the Submariner Date and the GMT-Master II, are on the list, but they don’t lead it.
I’ll be honest: after twenty-five years of buying and selling these watches, I would have bet on a steel sport model too. That’s exactly why we stopped guessing and built an index from our own sales.
One important distinction before the full ranking. This is not a list of the best-selling Rolex watches. Best-selling measures how many units sell, while this ranking measures how fast each reference sells once it becomes available. A watch can top one list without appearing on the other.
Below is the full ranking of 25 references, how we built the index, and what the results mean if you’re buying or thinking about selling.
Key Takeaways From the Ranking
- Four of the five fastest-selling Rolex references are gold or two-tone. The single fastest is a white gold Submariner, not a stainless steel sport model.
- The Submariner is represented across the ranking. Five references made the top 25 across steel, white gold, modern, and discontinued models, including the #1 spot.
- Datejust liquidity extends across sizes and generations. Nine Datejust and Lady-Datejust references made the ranking, from the vintage ref. 1601 to modern 28mm, 31mm, 36mm, and 41mm models.
- Women’s watches and smaller cases rank near the very top. The yellow gold Lady-Datejust 69138 ranks third overall, while the 28mm Datejust 279173 ranks fourth.
How the Bob’s Watches Rolex Liquidity Index Works

The Liquidity Index measures one thing: how quickly a Rolex reference sells compared to the average Rolex on our site. The average Rolex sold at Bob’s Watches scores 100, so a reference scoring 500 sells five times faster than average. We publish relative scores rather than raw figures because it’s the fairest way to compare references against each other: a single shared yardstick that puts every reference on equal terms. In market terms, the index captures sell-through velocity: the speed at which a watch finds a buyer once it’s available. That’s the only time we’ll use that phrase. From here on, we’ll just say what it means: these are the Rolexes that sell the fastest.
The index is built from more than 15 years of Rolex transaction data, spanning multiple market cycles and giving us a much broader basis for comparison than a short-term snapshot. Each reference is evaluated across the period in which it appears in our sales history, so newer references are not treated as though they have 15 years of transaction history themselves. References must also meet a minimum transaction threshold to qualify, and the final list is vetted by our watch experts to reduce the risk that one-off results distort the ranking.
“Liquidity is the most underrated number in this market. Everyone watches prices, but how quickly a reference converts to cash at a fair price tells you more about real demand than any price chart. That’s the number this index puts on the table.”
Joe Alessandrini, Chief Financial Officer at Bob’s Watches.
The broader market is moving the same direction. Boston Consulting Group’s research on the pre-owned watch market found the secondary market growing faster than the market for new watches, driven in part by buyers who treat watches as assets they can readily buy and sell. That is precisely the behavior our index measures at the reference level.

The 10 Fastest-Selling Rolex References, Up Close
The full table covers 25 references; the ten below show the range of demand behind the scores: precious metal and two-tone watches, women’s models, a specialist’s dive watch, and the modern sport references everyone knows. Retain existing photos and inventory links for each.
1. Rolex Submariner 116619 (Index: 2,515)

The fastest-selling Rolex we track takes the most recognizable dive watch profile in the catalog and casts it in white gold: heavier on the wrist, richer in presence, and with an exclusivity the steel models don’t offer. Buyers who want this watch know exactly what it is, and most people can’t spot it across a room, which is precisely the appeal. At 25 times the site average, the right example rarely waits around. I have collected white gold Submariners for years, and I understand why: it’s the stealthiest flex in the entire catalog.
When buying this reference, my advice is to pay close attention to condition, especially the case and bracelet. With any Rolex, you want to see strong proportions and avoid examples that have been polished too aggressively.
2. Rolex Sea-Dweller Deepsea 116660B (Index: 1,505)

The D-Blue dial, the blue-to-black gradient tied to the James Cameron Deepsea, gives this big, serious dive watch a focused appeal. It isn’t an everyday Rolex for every wrist, and the score suggests that’s exactly why it moves: a watch with focused appeal attracts buyers who already know they want it, and they act decisively.
The D-Blue Deepsea collection is one of those Rolex watches that makes much more sense on the wrist than it does in photographs. I love the gradient dial and the fact that Rolex made something this technically extreme with such a distinctive personality. My advice is simple: try one on before buying it. The Deepsea is a substantial watch, and wrist fit matters more here than with almost any other Rolex.
3. Rolex Lady-Datejust 69138 (Index: 1,000)

A yellow gold Lady-Datejust with a President-style bracelet, selling ten times faster than the average Rolex. It’s the clearest proof in the data that fast Rolex demand is not a men’s-sport-watch story: a smaller, dressier, solid-gold classic generating as much urgency as anything in the catalog.
What I like about the Rolex 69138 is that it feels unmistakably Rolex despite its smaller size. Solid yellow gold, the President-style bracelet, and the classic Datejust design give it far more presence than the dimensions suggest. I would focus on bracelet condition when shopping for one, because stretch can make a big difference in both how the watch wears and its long-term desirability.
4. Rolex Datejust 279173 (Index: 880)

A modern two-tone Datejust collection in a 28mm case, sitting in the top five of the entire ranking. Two-tone remains one of Rolex’s most familiar looks, and in this size it lands in the sweet spot of recognizable styling and accessible proportions. Smaller Datejusts aren’t a niche corner of the market. On this evidence, they’re close to its center.
This is a great example of why I never underestimate the smaller Datejusts. The 28mm size, fluted bezel, and two-tone construction create a very traditional Rolex look that still feels current. My advice is not to get too caught up in case diameter alone. On a Datejust, the dial, bezel, and bracelet combination can have just as much impact on how the watch looks and feels.
5. Rolex Daytona 116508 (Index: 705)

A yellow gold Daytona, where luxury, motorsport heritage, and collector recognition meet. Buyers shopping for a precious-metal Daytona usually know exactly what they want before they start looking, and that clarity closes the gap between listed and sold. Strong Daytona demand clearly reaches well past stainless steel.
Whenever I look at a full yellow-gold Daytona models, I find myself appreciating the watches presence. It is something that very few watches can match. I like the 116508 because it combines the Daytona’s racing history with the unmistakable feel of a serious luxury watch. If you’re buying one, I’d spend some time comparing dial configurations rather than simply chasing the one everyone else wants. On a gold Daytona, I have seen how the dial can completely change the character of the watch.
6. Rolex Yacht-Master 168623 (Index: 605)

The two-tone Yacht-Master is the quiet overachiever of the ranking: a model that rarely leads the conversation, selling six times faster than the average Rolex. Its blend of sport-watch build and gold-and-steel warmth gives it a lane of its own, and buyers in that lane move quickly. In my opinion it’s one of the most underrated watches Rolex makes, and the score backs that up.
I have always thought the Yacht-Master gets less attention than it deserves, and the 168623 is a perfect example. It has the durability of a Rolex sports watch but a softer, more luxurious personality than a Submariner. For someone who wants something recognizable without choosing the obvious Rolex sports model, this is one I’d seriously consider. Good examples can also represent a lot of watch for the money.
7. Rolex Datejust 178273 (Index 570)

A two-tone Datejust in the 31mm mid-size, and further proof that the middle of the Datejust range is anything but a compromise. It splits the difference between the smaller ladies’ models and the full-size 36mm, pairing steel-and-yellow-gold construction with proportions that work on a wide range of wrists. That flexibility widens the pool of buyers, and the score shows they don’t hesitate.
I think the 31mm Datejust is one of the smartest sizes Rolex offers, and the 178273 shows why. It has the fluted bezel, the two-tone warmth, and the classic dial layout, but in a case that wears comfortably for people caught between the traditional men’s and women’s sizes. My advice is to look at plenty of dial variants before committing. In this size, the dial does a lot of the talking, and the right one can make the watch feel completely personal.
8. Rolex Yacht-Master 226658 (Index 515)

The discontinued selection of Yacht-Master 42 watches on the Oysterflex bracelet is one of the boldest statements in the sports watch category, and its place this high in the ranking shows that boldness sells. Full gold on a rubber-backed bracelet is a combination only Rolex could make feel this resolved, and buyers drawn to it tend to arrive with their minds already made up.
What I enjoy about the 226658 is the contrast at the heart of it: a solid gold case and bezel paired with the sporty, comfortable Oysterflex. It’s a luxury watch that genuinely wears like a sports watch, which is rarer than it sounds. If you’re considering one, make sure the Oysterflex sizing is right for your wrist, because unlike a metal bracelet it can’t be adjusted link by link. A proper fit transforms how this watch feels day to day.
Both entries follow the established pattern, an analytical opening paragraph tied to the sales index, then a first-person collector’s take with one piece of practical buying advice. Let me know the actual index scores and I can slot them in, or adjust the tone anywhere it doesn’t quite match your voice.
9. Rolex Submariner 124060 (Index: 500)

The purist’s Submariner: no date, a perfectly symmetrical dial, and the cleanest modern expression of the original tool watch. It works in nearly any setting, and that versatility keeps it moving at five times the site average, the strongest score among the steel sport models.
If someone asked me to recommend one modern Rolex they could wear for almost anything, the 124060 would be near the top of the list. I love the symmetry of the no-date dial and how closely it stays connected to the original idea of the Submariner. My advice is not to dismiss it because it lacks a date. That simplicity is exactly what makes this reference so timeless.
10. Rolex Datejust 126333 (Index: 440)

This modern two-tone Datejust 41 model pairs a contemporary case size with the classic steel-and-gold character, equally at home with a suit or a t-shirt. It’s the everyday luxury Rolex, and the score shows the everyday choice is also a fast one.
The 126333 is Rolex doing what Rolex does best: taking a design everyone recognizes and making it work as an everyday watch. I like the 41mm size because it gives the traditional two-tone Datejust much more wrist presence without losing its classic character. If you’re choosing one, spend time comparing Jubilee and Oyster bracelets. They make the same reference feel like two very different watches.
What the Fastest-Selling Rolex Watches Have in Common

Looking across all 25 references, four patterns stand out, and together they describe a market with much more depth than the usual steel-sport conversation implies.
Submariner Liquidity Extends Across Metals and Generations
Five Submariner references made the ranking, led by the white gold 116619 at #1. The range is what stands out: white gold and steel, date and no-date, modern and discontinued references all appear on the list. Strong Submariner liquidity is clearly not limited to one generation, metal, or configuration.
Datejust Liquidity Extends Across Sizes and Generations
Nine Datejust and Lady-Datejust references made the ranking, spanning 28mm to 41mm, vintage to modern, and steel-and-white-gold to two-tone. Those references stretch across roughly five decades of production and four case sizes, from the vintage ref. 1601 to the modern two-tone Datejust 41. The data shows that strong Datejust liquidity is spread across far more than one popular configuration.
Women’s Models and Smaller Cases Sit Near the Top
The yellow gold Lady-Datejust 69138 ranks third overall with a score of 1,000, while the 28mm Datejust 279173 ranks fourth at 880. The vintage ref. 6719 also makes the top 25 with a score of 350. More than 15 years of transaction history shows that smaller Rolex watches can be highly liquid and compete directly with many of the better-known steel sport references.
“The fastest-growing conversations we have are with women buying for themselves. They come in knowing the exact reference, the dial, the bracelet. When a gold Lady-Datejust outpaces most of the steel sport catalog, that’s not a surprise to anyone on our floor,”
Carol Altieri, Chief Operating Officer at Bob’s Watches.
Gold and Two-Tone Can Move Faster Than Steel
Four of the five fastest-selling references in our ranking are gold or two-tone, and several precious-metal and two-tone references rank ahead of every stainless steel sport model on the list. That doesn’t mean every gold Rolex sells faster than every steel Rolex. It does show that precious metal and two-tone construction are no barrier to strong liquidity when the reference, condition, and price are right.
What This Means for Rolex Buyers

The takeaway for buyers is simple: the most liquid references can sell quickly relative to the average Rolex, so it pays to know what you want before the right example appears. Know the exact reference you’re looking for. Decide in advance whether box and papers are a dealbreaker, settle on the condition range you’re comfortable with, and establish a realistic budget. Then check inventory regularly so that when the right watch appears, you can make an informed decision without starting your research from scratch. The goal isn’t to rush a major purchase. It’s to be prepared.
The Easiest Rolex Watches to Sell: What This Means for Sellers

If your Rolex is on this list, more than 15 years of transaction history shows that the reference has demonstrated strong relative liquidity. That history can be a useful signal when you’re considering a sale, but the value of your specific watch still depends on today’s market and its individual condition. If you’re thinking about selling, get a current quote through our sell my Rolex page and see where your reference stands today.
One honest caveat: a high liquidity score is a demand signal, not a price. What your watch is actually worth still comes down to condition, originality, service history, bracelet condition, dial configuration, box and papers, and where inventory sits at that moment. Active demand opens the door, but it doesn’t set the number by itself. You can see where the market stands on our current Rolex prices page. But I’ll tell you what I tell friends who ask: when your watch is on this list and priced right, it won’t lack for an audience.

Final Thoughts
More than 15 years of transaction data shows that conventional wisdom about Rolex liquidity doesn’t always match the sales history. A white gold Submariner leads the ranking, gold and two-tone references occupy four of the top five positions, nine Datejust and Lady-Datejust references appear in the top 25, and smaller watches compete directly with the steel sport models that dominate much of the Rolex conversation.
For buyers, liquidity provides another way to understand how competitive the market for a particular reference can be. For sellers, it provides a useful measure of historical demand that complements current market value.
Even after decades in this business, some of these results challenged my assumptions about which Rolex watches move the fastest. That’s exactly why we’ll continue publishing the Bob’s Watches Rolex Liquidity Index: transaction data often tells a more interesting story than conventional wisdom.
