Where did the time go? It just feels like the other day we were writing about cool summer cocktails and the hot watches you should pair them with. Now, here we are in the full holiday swing, madly doing last minute shopping, running off to holiday parties and planning holiday dinners.
But whether you’re hosting for Christmas or you just need to kick back with a cocktail in between the holiday madness, we’ve come up with the ultimate list of festive drinks to enjoy and the killer Rolex watches you should pair them with. So sit back, relax, and be sure to save these recipes for later and the watches for your wish-list.
The Daytona is among the best watches to have for the holiday season.
Spiked Eggnog x Rolex Daytona ref. 116528
Creamy, thick and packed with rich festive flavors, eggnog is a holiday classic. But the thing about eggnog is that you either love it, or hate it — much like the Rolex Daytona. So this year while we sit by the fire sipping our rum-filled eggnog, we’ll be wearing a 40mm yellow gold ref. 116528.
This Daytona reference features a crisp white face, much like the frothy ‘nog you’re sipping on or the optional whipped cream you’ll top it with. Each of the sub-dials are also outlined in 18k yellow gold, tying back to the gold case, matching tachymeter bezel and classic oyster bracelet. If you’re into eggnog like we are, sit back and enjoy these both over the holidays — you can’t really go wrong.
6 oz small-batch eggnog
1 oz spiced rum
2 oz bourbon
1 tbsp ground cinnamon for garnish
Mix eggnog, spiced rum, and bourbon and stir well. Top it off with fresh grated nutmeg and a cinnamon stick.
The Cellini is another dress watch that is perfect for any party or any drink.
Hot Buttered Rum x Rolex White Gold and Everose Bezel Cellini ref. 4233
There’s nothing better than curling up next to the tree with a delicious warm drink — is there? Well, if it’s spiked with spicy dark rum, here absolutely is. An alternative to strong Hot Toddy’s, a Hot Buttered Rum is sweet and easy to drink — almost too easy to drink. And because of its warmth and wonderful amber color, we’re pairing this holiday cocktail with a white gold Cellini with the Rolex proprietary Everose gold bezel and brown crocodile strap.
Like the Hot Buttered Rum, this watch is a bit of a mix, but when it comes together it’s totally elegant and refined. The Cellini is typically seen as a dress watch, but this model here, the 4233, features these wonderfully outlined Arabic hour markers and a warm, brown band that brings it from black tie back down to cocktail hour. We can’t overlook that curvy, unique case either — the white gold effortlessly warmed up by the pink gold bezel that adds a vintage feel.
2 cups water
1/2 stick of unsalted butter
1/4 cup packed dark brown sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
1/8 teaspoon salt
2/3 cup dark rum
Combine water, butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and salt in a pot and bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Once boiling, reduce heat and simmer while whisking occasionally over the next 10 minutes. Remove from heat and serve hot in a mug.
The Day-Date is another great holiday watch for its rich color.
Smokey Sage Punch x Rolex President ref. 18238
This is the perfect drink to pour out if you’re the ones hosting Christmas dinner this year. You can make a big batch of this sweet, smokey, lip-smacking-good punch for all your (21+) guests. But fair warning, you’re probably going to have to make a few batches of this golden elixir, as it’s festive and easily drinkable.
Because of its mass-appeal and gorgeous color, we’d have to pay this holiday punch with an 18k yellow gold Rolex President. The modest-sized 36mm gold case is timelessly elegant and just the kind of watch every man wants in his collection — that shimmering champagne dial isn’t too shabby, either. We also love how this President isn’t paired with its usual matching bracelet and was instead given a maroon leather band that pops against the gold and is totally festive.
3 cups gin
1/2 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice from about 4 lemons
3/4 cup orange curacao
1/2 cup sage syrup
2 cups of already steeped lapsang souchong tea
Combine in a punch bowl and garnish with orange rounds, lemon rounds and sage leaves. Pour over ice.
