Pre-owned Rolex Day-Date 40 ref 228238 (2024) helped usher in the 40mm series, which replaced the outgoing 41mm DDII in 2015. Its case is slightly smaller than the 41mm model and perfectly refined. More importantly, ref. 228238 carries the next-gen calibre 3255 with a longer power reserve. Outwardly, this model features all the usual gold Rolex Presidential design elements, from the fluted bezel to the bracelet with rounded, three-piece links and dual calendar displays on the dial. What makes this example particularly exceptional is the dial itself, a lustrous lacquered green that debuted to rather exceptional fanfare during Watches and Wonders 2022. Newer models like this one display the Roman numerals in a unique configuration. Markers are sharply faceted and alternate with simple stick indices for better symmetry and an overall cleaner, uncluttered aesthetic. The combination of lacquered green with polished and brushed gold is truly exceptional. We don't expect this Rolex to last in our inventory for long. Add it to your collection in excellent second-hand condition.
