Vintage Rolex Submariner 1680
This is the legend, dear friends: the Rolex Submariner 1680. Introduced in the mid 60’s, this reference, was the first Submariner to sport the iconic “cyclops” date magnifier, which along with other innovations, made the 1680 one of the most well known watches in the world.
The Submariner reference 1680 brought a revolution to the Submariner line, with the addition of a calendar date function underneath the cyclops magnifier. The one we have available here is from 1972. Submariner enthusiasts will know that for the first few years of ref. 1680’s life that the word “Submariner” was printed in red as shown here. This piece proudly sports its Mark IV red letter dial, which is in excellent condition with a beautiful patina to the hour markers. The hand set has aged equally as well and match the dial quite well. The case appears to be unpolished and the original bevels are clearly visible. This is a huge draw to this watch! Another gigantic plus is the “Kissing 40” bezel insert that is present. It has minor wear for its age and looks fantastic. The 93150 bracelet has 11 links and is in excellent shape.
