Vintage Rolex Datejust 36 ref. 1603 (1978) is an excellent introduction to vintage Rolex ownership. This example features a 36mm stainless steel Oyster case with a distinctive engine-turned bezel, an interesting alternative to the more familiar fluted and smooth bezel options. The silver pie-pan dial features gently sloped outer edges that give it added depth, along with simple baton hour markers and matching hands. A date window sits at 3 o'clock beneath the Cyclops magnifier on the acrylic crystal, a defining feature of vintage Datejust watches. Completing the design is a stainless steel five-piece link Jubilee bracelet, which has been associated with the Datejust since the collection debuted in 1945. Inside is the automatic Rolex caliber 1570, a chronometer-certified movement with approximately 48 hours of power reserve.
