Pre-owned Rolex Datejust ref 1603 (1978) has a fascinating design set. The case is covered by an older-style acrylic crystal and features a dynamic engine-turned bezel. Even more remarkable is the dial, in the vintage Pie Pan style and with Tritium in a deep, golden patina and elegant stick indices. The Greek Sigma at the bottom of the dial signifies that the hour markers and hands are made from white gold, a characteristic that could otherwise be easily mistaken for steel were it not for the tiny symbols at the bottom of the dial. This distinction is common in older-model luxury watches. Still, it adds to the overall story and character of a vintage watch like this Rolex 1603.
